Downtown L.A. still has dive bars? You bet. With its clientele of neighborhood regulars, fading alcoholics and refugees from the asymmetrical haircut crowd, Hank's makes Bar 107 look like the Chateau Marmont. Located in the base of the Hotel Stillwell, Hank's has been around since 1959 and claims to be the friendliest bar in town. Who cares about friendly when the drinks are strong and cheap? Plus, the joint is almost never full, so you can linger over your beer as long as you like. All sorts of local legends have claimed Hank's as their own, including legendary, all-girl punk trio The Wet Spots. Hank's is everything a true neighborhood bar should be: accessible and ungentrified but stuck in the past and a little bit sordid. The last great neighborhood bar!
