Avalon

There are probably few DJs in the world that haven’t played at Avalon, a cavernous theater/danceteria that’s one of L.A.’s prime destinations for dance music. The entire space can fit a little under 1500 people and has also been host to gatherings from concerts to raves. Avalon consists mainly of a stage and a huge dancefloor, with more seating upstairs in the balcony. Larger events and special parties often spill over into the Spider Club upstairs. The building itself has had a storied past since its beginnings as the Hollywood Playhouse in 1927. The Beatles performed their first West Coast concert there and the Rolling Stones, Prince and Nirvana have graced its stage during its last incarnation as the Palace. Currently, club nights like Saturday’s Avaland welcome world-famous electronica DJs like John Digweed, Felix Da Housecat and the Crystal Method.
