Josh Dorman collects old maps, but the New York-based artist is not planning a trip anytime soon. In fact, he uses the maps to create collages that document dreamscapes rather than landscapes. "I use everything from pre-1940s topographic maps to old science books," Dorman says. "The connectedness of forms between different languages is profound to me." Dorman’s work will be on display in "Within Four Miles: The world of Josh Dorman," which opens Thursday at the Craft and Folk Art Museum. Expect to see lots of out-of-date textbooks, sepia-toned maps and old encyclopedias. Or as Dorman puts it, "Paper that has lived a life."
