Very Special Arts Gallery West

What's special about Very Special Arts Gallery West isn't that it's right next door to Spago in the heart of the Beverly Hills shopping mecca, but that it's a place for works in a spectrum of media, all by artists with disabilities.

As an affiliate of Washington DC's Kennedy Center, VSAG West and its sister gallery near the district's DuPont Circle brings to the attention of patrons work by professional artists limited by physical or developmental disabilities -- but not in their capacity to express themselves through photography, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and metalworking.

VSAG West is an open, airy space with a friendly staff happy to introduce you to some of their favorites. Bright colors and a folk-art feel characterize many of the artists' styles. Look for Raymond Hu's Chinese brush paintings of animals, Chris Morland's infrared photos of the corners of Los Angeles, and Christa Vragel's mysterious stone glyphs. -- Leann Davis Alspaugh
