About
This museum offers several shows a year and is in the midst of an expansion program that will provide even more space.
Most of its events are geared toward late 20th century and California art, but one of its most recent achievements was a showing of the traveling Anne Frank exhibit detailing the life of the famed young Holocaust victim.
Recently the museum received a major boost with the announcement that the Irvine Company was donating an adjoining former library building for a proposed expansion program.
Visiting
Located in Newport Beach, the museum is easy to get to from the major freeways or by public transportation.
From Los Angeles, take the 405 South and then connect to the 73 South and exit Jamboree Road. Turn right on Jamboree. Continue on Jamboree and turn left onto Santa Barbara Drive, then turn left on San Clemente Drive. Take an immediate left into the parking lot. (The museum's parking lot is free to all visitors.)
You can also take bus lines 55, 57, 75 and 79 to the area.
The museum is open every day except Mondays and Tuesdays, as well as Easter, July 4, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's.
General admission is $10. Seniors and students with valid ID pay $8. The third Thursday of every month is free to all visitors.
Dining and entertainment
The Citrus Cafe is located in the museum but is open only during weekends while it undergoes renovations.
To get to other restaurants, you'll have to drive a short distance. Ozumo serves upscale Japanese cuisine in a large stylish space that suggests a futuristic temple from the outside.
Also nearby, Sam & Harry's offers classic American and continental cuisine in a high-class setting.
