About
After moving from its old location on Olympic Blvd. in downtown LA, the Museum of Neon Art reopened in early April 2008 in expanded new digs. MONA is the world's only permanent art museum devoted to the gas, tubes, bright hues and pure joy that these signs bring to all people who are down with this modern world.
MONA was founded in 1981 by neon artist Lili Lakich and theater marquee restorer Richard Jenkins. They started off based in a warehouse in Little Tokyo, and later moved to the Universal CityWalk. MONA moved to its current downtown home in 1995. The director -- and talented neon artist Kim Koga -- arrived in 1998. In addition to exhibitions, how-to workshops on making neon art are offered, as are occasional neon cruises -- open-air double-decker bus tours to neon sites all around the city.

The Museum of Neon Art is no longer on Olympic but will shortly reopen at its new location.
