About
The Usual Suspects: Willem DeKooning, Sam Francis, Mark Rothko, Robert Motherwell, Philip Guston, Edward Dugmore, Joan Mitchell, Alfred Leslie, Franz Kline, Michael Goldberg, Emerson Woelffer, Adolph Gottlieb and Giorgio Cavallon.
Aside from being the name and roster of a 1993 exhibit here, the above best describes the New York School abstract expressionist fare always on display at this large West Hollywood gallery. Group show or solo, these post-war influential Americans are the rule at Manny Silverman's.
Here, the walls are white; the carpet, woven and speckled; and no less than six skylights mark the main room. A couple of cross-belted benches allow for relaxation and considerable contemplation. Other positives: Silverman puts together impressive catalogs, gallery director Linda Hooper is friendly and patient, and Silverman himself was a driving force behind the organization of the popular Avenues of Art and Design opening night revelries.
