Louis Stern Fine Arts

Clocks on the wall of Louis Stern's office show the time in Los Angeles, Paris and Tokyo. Art works on the walls of his gallery range from Latin American and impressionist to post-impressionist and modern. Stern is from a well-known L.A. art collecting and studying family. He's been an art dealer for 40 years, a gallery owner for more than 10. Shows of note have included a retrospective exhibit of 1900s Mexican painter Alfredo Ramos Martinez and the exhibit "Jacque Villon, Six Decades of Painting" at the 1997 Absolut L.A. International Biennial Art Invitational.

Visiting

The gallery is located along West Hollywood's ultra-fashionable Avenue of Art and Design, at 9002 Melrose Ave., near N. Almont Dr. Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood but this can be difficult especially on weekends. There are also a few pay parking lots located in the area.

Dining and entertainment

There are numerous dining options within walking distance of the gallery. Murano Restaurant serves up fancy Italian and French cuisine in a chic setting. Melrose Bar & Grill specializes in upscale American cuisine and seafood. And across Santa Monica Blvd., there's Dan Tana's, a local institution where the steaks are delicious and very expensive.
