The Children's Museum at La
Habra

Located in a charming, restored 1923 railroad station, California's original children's museum first opened in La Habra in 1977. A new wing, completed in 1989, increased the size of the facility to 12,500 square feet. This museum has a small science station that encourages hands-on exploration with a dino dig, pendulum pictures and a variety of science experiments. The adjoining room has a carousel to ride, a minimarket for shopping, and the front end of an Orange County Transit car. At certain times, you can walk through a train caboose just outside. The next room has wonderful, interactive, changing exhibits. A connecting room features a big model train, then leads to the nature room. Here you can look at animals preserved by taxidermy, pick up objects on the touch table and check out a bee observatory. The theater room contains a stage and costumes for dress-up. The playroom for younger children has a fake tree to climb, a little puppet theater and a play castle. Portola Park is located just behind the museum and features a playground and baseball fields plus picnic tables and barbecue grills.
