About
Proprietor Chong J. Kim presents his own original Impressionist-style works here, and publishes not-so limited editions of the pieces (editions can run as high as 1,950 copies.) The same arrangement holds true for the gallery's two other artists, Kim's septuagenarian father-in-law Thomas Ho and a guy named Grodner. All three artists paint with oil, and father and son-in-law, at least, seem especially enamored with floral landscapes. Ho uses soft colors; Kim paints medium-sized pieces. One work of Kim's that hung in the shop's front window for some time featured grass luxuriously covered in morning dew.
The June Gallery has been in this space only since late 1997. Kim's had a gallery somewhere in L.A. for at least fifteen of the twenty years since he first moved here from Korea. -- Jeremy Rosenberg
