About
Baum's been an L.A. art-scene fixture for years. She's had her own gallery since 1977, and she's been at this location since 1980. Among the gallerist's claims to fame is her representation of one of the first families of African-American art, the Saars. Matriarch Betye Saar has been with Jan Baum ever since that very first year, and daughters Lezley and Allison followed suit in the '80s and '90s. Allison makes large-scale, painted-wood sculptures, while Lezley crafts mixed-media pieces like a munitions-clad book cover.
