About
After four decades of running a public space, the proprietors have closed their La Cienega address. They will continue to operate as private dealers from a private venue in the Pacific Palisades. Call the former phone number to get ahold of the new Heritage site.
Here's our write-up about the former space:
Spend an hour with Benjamin Horowitz and his associate, Charlotte Sherman, and here's what you get: a 37-year history of the L.A. art scene, a discussion of pre-World War II Greenwich Village and post-War Europe, encyclopedic anecdotes about artists and art events, and -- if you ask nicely -- some cookies and herbal tea.
Here at Heritage, a labyrinth of rooms showcases drawings, etchings, paintings and sculptures by the likes of Chagall, Miro, Dufy and Sam Francis. There's a long hallway called "the Graphics Gallery" and an art section upstairs with works on paper that sell for under $100.
Latin American stuff, Russian icons, California Hard Edge, the Ash Can school -- you name it, Horowitz has exhibited it.
Other Horowitz faves include close friend Charles White, Moses and Raphael Sawyer, William Glackens, William Gropper and ex-professional football player Ernie Barnes. -- Jeremy Rosenberg
