While unremarkable from the exterior, this stylish Chinese restaurant in Los Feliz has fans raving for its great food and even better service. It doesn’t look or feel like your typical quick-service Chinese joint, with an elegant décor of deep red walls and stark prints hanging from the ceiling. And the tuxedo-clad waiters, always thoughtful and attentive, bring to mind some bygone era you weren’t even around for. To be sure, it is not for the purist – or even someone expecting the old standbys. The dishes here have a modern flair, with plenty of Western influence, including calamari yu-shung sauce, Mandarin scampi and Chinese chicken salad. The “sizzling” entrees, which are scallops, beef or fish sautéed in oyster sauce, are especially good. Prices can be high for the genre, but it’s not prohibitive, with most entrees coming in around $13.
