Bundle up in your warmest winter clothes and hit the ice at Ventura County's only outdoor ice rink, which will glisten with snow, garlands and festive lights. It features a 60' x 60' skating area amid shops and restaurants.

The irony of having an ice rink mere minutes from the beach is not lost on us, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't celebrate the holiday season at Santa Monica's outdoor ice skating rink. Bring your admission bracelet to a participating Los Angeles or Orange County Starbucks and receive a free tall hot beverage.

The appropriately named Seaside Ice debuted Tuesday in Redondo Beach and will be open every day throughout the holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, until Jan. 11. The rink, slightly smaller than hockey regulation size, is a novelty, but it's more than a place just to put blade to ice. It promises daily visits by a Zamboni machine and weekly screenings of Disney movies and skating exhibitions. That's in addition to de rigueur servings of hot chocolate, a less-than-de-rigueur Brazilian barbecue and, of course, Santa (who'll show up on a big red sleigh Nov. 28 and stay till Christmas). HOURS: 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Sat.-Sun.
