Take a tour of the most haunted house in Diamond Bar! Screams and thrills await you around every corner in themed rooms. Not recommended for children under 8 years old!


2. Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade   Anaheim

A full weekend of Halloween and autumn-themed activities starting with the Masquerade Jubilee on Friday night, a family festival with booths, carnival rides and concerts. There's also the Spooktacular Halloween Parade on Saturday.


3. Boo at the Zoo   Glendale & adj.

(Oct. 24-25, Oct. 31, Nov. 1) Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Have a fun-filled Halloween celebration with the whole family at the L.A. Zoo as Treetops Terrace and other areas are transformed into a trick-or-treater's dream with fun and silly performers, lots of treats and other surprises. Special crafts and the creepy creature encounter make for a fun-filled, but not-so-scary weekend for kids of all ages.

6. Long Beach Cemetery Tour   Long Beach

The dead rise from their graves to tell you about the lives they lived and the way they died at the neighboring Long Beach Municipal and Sunnyside Cemeteries in Long Beach. 10 characters from the past recount their life, accomplishments, contributions and influences. Each story ends with a final stroke of misfortune leading to the storyteller's demise and a permanent residence in the cemetery. Glimpses of life, customs, attitudes and culture provide fascinating insights into bygone eras. This is an outdoor two hour walking tour on uneven terrain. Wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen and a hat.

7. Day of the Dead Altars and Ephemera   Pasadena

In tribute to the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) the Folk Tree is hosting its 24th annual showcase of traditional altars and folk work by local artists. A highly personal remembrance, each altar is dedicated to an influential person in the life of its creator, often containing letters, photographs, food, decorated sugar skulls and candles.

8. Dia De Los Muertos   Hollywood

(Oct. 24) Celebrate life by remembering the dead at Hollywood Forever's festive party. Learn about the ancient tradition of honoring the dead with ceremonial altars via lectures and musical performances. Several art exhibits and over 100 traditional altars will be on display.

Self Help Graphics & Art's 35th annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration will showcase original work by various artists, in order to encourage and inspire discussion of the theme "A call to witness." The day begins with a procession from from Cinco Puntos (Indiana & Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.) to Self Help Graphics (3802 Cesar E. Chavez Avenue & Gage).

10. Disney's Halloween Time   Anaheim

The happiest place on earth meets the spookiest time of the year when Disneyland gets dressed up for Halloween Time featuring your favorite Disney characters decked out in Halloween costumes. Ride through the newly decorated Haunted Mansion. Get lost in a sea of pumpkins while observing creatively carved jack-o'-lanterns and munching on candy corn. Or for a chilling thrill, drop down the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror faster than the speed of gravity.

11. Doggy Costume Contest   West Hollywood

Adorn your pooch in your funkiest costumes and participate in the Doggy Costume Contest for prizes in categories including scariest costume, best look-alike, most creative and others. Pets must be in good health, be restrained by leashes and have all applicable immunizations.

12. Fearplex Haunted Theme Park   Pomona

The Pomona Fairplex becomes the Fearplex! Dare to step into a multi-level 25-room insane asylum featuring crazed and delusional patients who want to scare you. Enjoy food, refreshments, photos, music and games but beware of psychopaths on the loose. For a less scary adventure, attend the family friendly park on October 12 and 19 from 7 to 8 p.m. Buy a $39 Platinum Pass and be eligible to attend Old Town Haunt, Seaside Haunt and Spooky House Haunted Theme Park. Tickets may be used once at each location during this holiday season.


13. Festival De La Gente   Downtown L.A.

The nation's largest Dia de los Muertos celebration will fill the streets with 170,000 attendees. Festival de la Gente, conceived by Tony Dominguez in 1999, is a celebration of life inspired by the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos. Performances by local favorites include Local H Quinto Sol, Santos De Los Angele and The Wise Guys. A new addition to the festival this year will be the Eco Family Friendly Zone, which will offer family friendly activities aimed at educating patrons on fun ways to preserving our natural resources.

14. Halloween Haunted House Tour   Westlake

This historic Grier Musser Museum, housed in a turn-of-the century, Queen Anne house, is transformed into a spooky sight for this spooky Halloween tour. The museum displays antique collections in monthly holiday exhibits throughout the year.

15. Halloween Horror Nights   Universal City

Freddy Krueger and his band of sadistic terrorists are on the loose at Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights. Ride the new Terror Tram into your worst nightmare and make sure to wear eyes in the back of your head, or else Leatherface and The Strangers' most notorious assassins will have you running for your life -- or at least screeching at the top of your lungs. Not recommended for children under 13!

16. Halloween Horrors Bus Tour   Lincoln Heights

As Esotouric's most grisly Crime Bus tour, this seasonal confection stops at the sites of the weirdest and most disgusting crimes in LA's history, including several with a Halloween theme. Halloween Horrors features lurid crime scene photos and more sick jokes per mile than the other Crime Bus tours and is the only no-kids-allowed tour on the schedule. Vintage crime scene photos are featured, with passengers urged to BYOBB (bring your own barf bag), always a smart idea when Crimebo the Crime Clown is in attendance. Check-in: is at 11:30 a.m. for a 12 p.m. sharp departure from the Lincoln Heights/Cypress Gold Line Metro station.

17. Halloween Nighttime Tours of the Spider Pavillion   Downtown L.A. & adjacent

Take a nighttime tour of these arachnids at the first spider viewing center of its kind. Spider crafts for kids and a movie on October 30 add to the creepy-crawly fun.

18. Haunted Trails   Laguna Niguel

A guide leads brave souls through a series of tents featuring pirate-themed mazes for 2008. There's a scary version and a less scary version, but even the milder one is not recommended for children under 6.

19. Haunt at Heritage Hill and Autumn Harvest Festival   Lake Forest

Celebrate Halloween with the family at the Autumn Harvest Festival on October 18, featuring a costume parade, haunted house and park-wide trick-or-treating. A new event added this year by the city of Lake Forest is Haunt at Heritage Hill on October 17, recommended for children over 13. Haunt features a movie screening of the classic, "The Creature from the Black Lagoon," a scare zone and a Guitar Hero contest. Being able to play "Through the Fire and the Flames" on expert level without a mistake? That's truly scary.

20. Haunted Hollywood Tours   Hollywood

The classic haunted Hollywood tour -- leaving from Grauman's Chinese Theater every day at 5 p.m. -- reveals Tinseltown's dark side with stops at L.A.'s most famous haunted hotel, the Roosevelt, and the cemetery of the stars, Hollywood Forever. Customizable and private tours available.

21. Haute Dog Howl'oween Parade   Long Beach

(Oct. 31) Join more than 600 costumed dogs to celebrate Halloween at the world's largest Halloween pet event. Flying monkeys, witches, ballerinas, celebrities and yes, hot dogs, are just a few of the costumes that have been worn in past parades. The new six-block parade route travels down the middle of Park Ave. from Livingston Dr. and eventually returns to Livingston Park. Bring your own folding chair or rent one on Park Ave. for just $5. You can also enter the kids costume contest for free.

22. Halloween and Mourning Tours   Highland Park

During these special weekend tours, guests will visit a house in mourning, learn about the origins of Halloween, explore the Victorian fascination with ghosts and spirituality, see a traditional altar for Dia de los Muertos and more. On Sunday, Children ages 2 to 12 are invited to come in costume, play period games, enjoy and make in 19th century harvest crafts, choose a pumpkin from the pumpkin patch, listen to spooky stories and receive treats from costumed interpreters.

Tour guide Karie Bible leads weekly walking tours of Hollywood Forever, one of the most celebrated and historic cemeteries in all of America.

26. Hollywood Halloween Street Fair   Hollywood

Beast, bunnies and boxers fill Hollywood Blvd for a night of parading down the street. It's not an official event anymore, but thousands of costumed revelers still show up to cavort through the streets of Hollywood at this family-friendly alternative to West Hollywood's Halloween celebration. Many of the shops stay open so children can go trick-or-treating.(Located on Hollywood Blvd. from dusk to 10 p.m.)


27. Humans Are Such Easy Prey Drive-In Series   East Hollywood (Thai Town)

Drive in and lock your car doors for recurring Friday night thrills and chills. The Steve Allen Theater presents hair-raising horror flicks every Friday until the squirm-inducing double-bill on Halloween evening, Blood Sucking Fiends and Aliens. The screamings and screenings will begin at 9 p.m. in the parking lot. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. Additional seating will be available inside.

28. Kids Halloween Party   Culver City

Royal/T will host a Kids Halloween Party with cookie decorating, games and a guest appearance by Clocky the Mystical Oracle. Parents are invited to enjoy high tea or have lunch while the kids participate in the festivities. Free for children, $25 for parents for the high tea.

29. Kidspace Pumpkin Festival   Pasadena

Great for even the youngest of kids, the 14th annual Kidspace Pumpkin Festival celebrates autumn by sparking the imaginations of visitors of all ages. Children can sing and dance to music and live performances, run through a pumpkin patch or enjoy a costume parade.

30. Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Haunt   Buena Park

(Sep. 24 - Nov. 1) Berry turns to Scary as fast as Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde. When the sun goes down, enter Knott's Berry Farm at your own risk. You're not allowed to pass through the gates in costume, but plenty of creepy creatures will be crawling in every corner of Knott's Scary Farm. Among the rides and attractions, ghosts and ghouls may attack at any moment; passing through the entrance gates makes you fair game. Not recommended for children under 13! 31. LACMA MUSE Costume Ball   Miracle Mile

(Oct. 31) Spend the night dancing and dining in an art-inspired costume at LACMA's 5th annual Muse Costume Ball. This year's event takes its inspiration from Heroes and Villains: The Battle for Good in India's Comics and features a special presentation by Gotham Chopra; live music by Voxhaul Broadcast; DJ sets throughout the night; installations and projections by Mindshare Labs and Museum of Traffic; an after-hours viewing of the Heroes and Villains exhibit; a costume contest for the Best Hero, Best Villain and Most Creative; and an open bar featuring Dos Equis and Malibu.

32. Masters of the Night: the True Story of Bats   Santa Ana

As part of the Discovery Science Center's Spooky Science event, children will have an opportunity to hear bats communicate, participate in science experiments, explore a 3D maze and take home trick-or-treat goodie bags. Kids will also learn about echolocation and examine six species of bats around the world through interactive activities.


33. Mickey's Trick-or-Treat Party   Anaheim

Wear your favorite Halloween costume and head to Disney's California Adventure where you can dance to live music with Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters. Enjoy arts and crafts or trick-or-treating to satisfy your sweet tooth and get you through the long lines at the attractions.


34. Old Town Haunt   Pasadena

Peek into the basement of the ancient Union Savings Bank building, which according to rumor, is the site of a deadly history. Locked up for decades, the haunted building's doors will be reopened for your investigation. Enter at your own risk.


35. Pumpkin Roundup Festival   La Canada-Flintridge

Descanso Gardens hosts this all-day event for kids and families with pumpkin decorating, a costume parade and projects that focus on nature and the environment. Children can see bees up close, learn about the process of beekeeping and explore antique farm tractors.


36. Rotten Apple 907   San Fernando Valley

Welcome to "the house where screams are made." Started in 1990, this family-run haunted house was first built to entertain the family's daughter, but by 2005 more than 1,200 people were coming through each year. This year's theme "The Wizard of Odz" promises mystical frights for all.


37. Scarium of the Pacific   Long Beach

(Oct. 24-25) Discover the creatures lurking in the depths of Pacific at the Scarium of the Pacific, a spooktacular yet educational Halloween event for the whole family. Enjoy special Halloween programs including a costume contest for kids, a creepy coloring contest, magic shows, spooky storytelling, kooky crafts, eerie animals in the Great Hall and much more.

38. Seaside Haunted Theme Park   Oxnard/Port Hueneme

Double the size means double the horror at the fifth annual Seaside Haunted Theme Park. Featuring attractions titled, "Mutiny to Purgatory" and "Blood Beach Haunted Mansion," the event will host eerie sights including a haunted pirate ship, bruised and battered bridges and zombie pirates. Matinee shows for children occur on Oct. 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26 and Nov. 1 from noon - 4 p.m.


39. Shipwreck: 14th Annual Halloween Terrorfest   Long Beach

Dare to venture over murky waters to the 14th annual Halloween Terrorfest aboard the shipwrecked Queen Mary. With seven haunted mazes, it'll be a wonder if you step foot on land in one piece.


40. Six Flags Fright Fest   Valencia

Six Flags Magic Mountain will keep you screaming, but not just because of the bloodcurdling roller coasters. Take a scary stroll through four haunted mazes including Lector's Slaughterhouse and Willoughby's Haunted Mansion or ride coasters in the dark. Just watch out for roaming zombies. Join ghoulish entertainers, Heckles and Twitch, for an unexpected mixture of comedy and terror.


41. Spooky House 19: Haunted Theme Park   Canoga Park

Ride the "Hellavator" through a two-story 1920's Victorian Mansion that has 25 haunted and horrifically adorned rooms. Slyly sashay down secret passages and torture chambers, but be careful not to trip over bodies draped throughout the death-ridden house floors. Not recommended for younger children! Matinee shows from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26 and Nov. 1, are more child friendly.
