L.A.'s best Halloween parties: West Hollywood edition

Is the mere thought of choosing a party for Halloween haunting you? Do you lose sleep because you can’t decide where to go bump (and grind) through Hallows Eve night? Well, we at The Guide empathize with you. West Hollywood on Halloween is definitely an intimidating if not menacing place to prowl if you don’t know where you’re going. So here’s a compiled list of the best spooktacular events in the city for all you boys and ghouls to explore.

1. The Abbey   West Hollywood

Once named one of the best lounges in Hollywood, The Abbey will be throwing a Halloween bash with exclusive cocktails provided by Bacardi. The event will have special Halloween drinks with splashes of the spirit. The event is free, but if you want to mingle with the best of WeHo, try getting a VIP table by calling ahead. Get a head start on Halloween:The Abbey will be open all day from 8 a.m. onwards.

2. Apple Lounge   West Hollywood

Janice Dickinson, the notorious model turned reality TV star will host this bar's Halloween bash. The party’s theme is "A Night of a Thousand Janice's" and masks of Dickinson will be passed out to every guest. Expect plenty of mayhem throughout the night to ensue. Doors open at 6 p.m. and Janice will arrive around 8 p.m. There will be a $10 fee at the door.

3. Here Lounge   West Hollywood

Have the itch to bare it all for cash but perhaps didn't know when the right time was? Well the right time is Halloween at this bar where the “filthiest” costumes will be awarded various prizes. Porn director Chi Chi LaRue hosts the night away for a truly frighteningly erotic night. Special guests are said to also be in attendance. Doors open at 9 a.m. and this party goes on until the early morning.

4. Foxtail   West Hollywood

Is it difficult for you to determine if you are naughty or nice? Well at Foxtail Lounge you can be both. The lounge will be throwing a "Heaven and Hell" theme party where DJ Able and DJ Hem will spin. Whether or not you end up naughty or nice by the end of the night, is your choice alone. Doors open at 10 p.m.

5. Arena   Hollywood

This club's "Halloween Massacre" is perfect for those who are not quite yet 21, but are of legal status. For $20 you can get in for the entire night. Doors open at 9 p.m. Dress ghoulishly to impress.

6. Circus Disco   Hollywood

Right next door to Arena lies Circus. Expect a gay crowd, dance, music, and mayhem. The $15 cover charge gets you in for a party that ends at 4 a.m. Come for music, a dance party, a $500 best costume contest and mayhem.

7. 8 oz. Burger Bar   Melrose

A Halloween without a little bubbly is like Christmas without presents. 8 oz. understands this and is having drink specials throughout the night. Come party in your favorite costumes, create your own witch brew, or try one of their chilling Halloween cocktails. There will be a costume contest, so do come with your witch hats and brooms in tow (leave your cackling at the door). Doors at 9 p.m. No cover.

8. Area   West Hollywood

"No hassles" is what Area is promising for their costume party. The club's special event Friday is being presented by LA Direct Magazine and Forplay Hollywood, with DJ Spryte spinning cool tunes throughout the night. Make sure you RSVP for this bash. Doors open at 10 p.m. $20.

9. Coco de Ville   West Hollywood

Admit it, Hollywood just would not be the same without celebrities. Good thing Coco de Ville and STK are inviting the public for an exclusive event with The Pussycat Dolls (who host, but will not perform). All four dolls (sans lead singer Nicole Scherzinger will be scaring up fun at Coco de Ville. Grand wizards DJ Adam 12 and DJ Devin Lucien spin. Hop from one of the four different "Wizard of Oz" themed rooms and forget to follow the yellow brick road safely to the open bar (after a $150 ticket is purchased, that is). The event starts at 9 p.m. and will conclude at 2 a.m.

10. Key Club   West Hollywood

Are Hollywood Halloween parties making you feel worse because you are too young to get into most of them? Don’t sweat it...those of you over 18 can still have a raging ghoulicious time at this venue's "Twisted Halloween Dance Party." The Key Club will be transformed Friday into an outrageous Halloween event with lasers, props, and deathly décor set up. DJs Green Latern, Mega Banton, Lemon D and more will spin. It is $20 to get in and doors open early at 7 p.m.

11. ONE Sunset   West Hollywood

Ditch that itchy mullet and take off that heavy Batman armor because child, you are going to the ball. This Sunset Blvd. bar's "Halloween Costume and Masquerade Ball" will be a night of white wigs, flashy masks, and fluffy dresses where all will be encouraged to dress in their meanest French aristocratic costumes. This is a guest list only event so RSVP ASAP.

12. Stone Rose   West Hollywood

Don’t be ashamed to get freaky in your freaky costumes...it is encouraged at Stone Rose. The costume parties at the venue will be judged on three categories: best costume, best couple costumes, and most original (so stray away from dressing up like the Joker or Sarah Palin). Like many parties in Hollywood this year, the venue has a free cover but you will need to RSVP first. Doors open at 8 p.m. and will go until 2 a.m.

13. Whiskey Blue   Westwood / West L.A.

What is brewing at the bar? Witches Brew, the drink of choice at the W's Westwood's Halloween extravaganza. The signature drink will be served in a goblet along with classic movies like "Carrie" playing throughout the evening. Watch the movie and dress the part as three different prizes will be given out to the best costumes. Doors open at 10 p.m. and ends at 2 a.m.

14. West Hollywood Park   West Hollywood

No need to pay high fees to get hyphy on Halloween. Actually, you need not pay anything at all. Join about 250,000 others for a street-long Halloween festival on Santa Monica Blvd. where you and others will be automatically entered as finalists for the costume contest. "Secret" judges will prowl the streets and at the end of the night, the winner will be prized $1000. Other events night include crowning E! comedian, Chelsea Handler as the "Queen of the Carnaval," a street-wide dance party, and, of course, plenty of reveling. Come with comfortable shoes in tow--and get down with your bad self.
